Toronto Blue Jays The Toronto Blue Jays are a professional baseball team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Blue Jays are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's American League. The "Blue Jays" name originates from the bird of the same name. They are nicknamed "the Jays", which is featured on the team's logo and on the front of the home uniform. An expansion franchise, the club was founded in Toronto, in 1977. Originally based at Exhibition Stadium, the team moved to the SkyDome in 1989. In 2004 the SkyDome was bought by Rogers Communications who renamed the venue to Rogers Centre. They are the first and only team outside the United States to win a World Series, and the first team to win a World Series in Canada. With the fellow Canadian franchise Montreal Expos moving to Washington, D.C. after the 2004 season, and becoming the Washington Nationals, the Blue Jays are currently the only MLB team outside the U.S. Hot lines: Saturday's best MLB bets (Covers.com) Files from Associated Press. ANALYSIS; Patience And Speed Writ Large Even before the first pitch of Game 5 on Monday, the Yankees' defining moments of the World Series had already been written. They were not so different from the hallmarks of their last championship. In 2000, the Yankees strangled the Mets from the start, capitalizing on a Game 1 base-running blunder by Timo Perez and using a 10-pitch walk by Paul O'Neill to spark a tying rally in the ninth. In Game 4 against the Phillies on Sunday, Johnny Damon created two similar moments that could also have a...

A brawl broke out in the eighth inning after the Yankees? Jorge Posada elbowed Blue Jays reliever Jesse Carlson. BLUE JAYS 14, YANKEES 8; Jeter Steady, But Yankees Are Undone By Errors The Yankees have made a habit this season of drawing comparisons to players from the past who earned distinction in pinstripes. On Sunday, Sergio Mitre put his name alongside the left-hander David Wells, but not for one of Wells's better efforts. Mitre surrendered nine earned runs and the Yankees lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 14-8, at Rogers Centre. That was the most by a Yankees pitcher since the Anaheim Angels ripped Wells for 11 earned runs on Aug. 19, 1997.
YANKEES 6, BLUE JAYS 4; Bullpen Helps Make Pettitte Look Good in Yankees' Win Over Blue Jays The Yankees' incumbent closer, Mariano Rivera, will return soon. The interim, Phil Hughes, has plugged the gap in his absence. But anyone who spells Rivera, by definition, has a fleeting role. ''It's not often when you get to save games on the Yankees when your name's not Mariano,'' Hughes said after retiring the final four hitters Saturday to collect his third save of the season in the Yankees' 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.
